Background
Peter Ayodele Fayose was born born 13th November 1960. Fayose grew up in Ibadan, Oyo State where he attended Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo.
He holds a Higher National Diploma (HND).
Past Records
Ayodele Fayose was governor of Ekiti State in Nigeria from 29 May 2003 to 16 October 2006. In 2004,
Below are some of the things he did while in office
- Fayose's administration bought 250 motorbikes under Ekiti state poverty alleviation programmed which was distributed to the 16 local
governments. These motorbikes were distributed to the youths to alleviate poverty.
- Fayose's administration launched the Drug Revolving Fund, popularly known as 'People Drug Scheme' on 8th anniversary of Ekiti state. This
programme enables the people to have access to subsidized drugs.
Fayose has been involved in a lot of litigations since he became governor of Ekiti State.
Shortly after Fayose was elected, the Alliance for Democracy Party (AD) brought a suit in the Elections Tribunal charging that Fayose
presented falsified documents when he registered to become a candidate. And in 2004, he was sued for 5 billion naira by Omegabank for damages
to its business reputation.
(the rest of the story as obtained from Wikileaks)
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the numerous killings and theft from the state coffers that occurred during the Fayose
administration and a lot of them are being linked to him (and his cohorts). A particularly outspoken statesman even claimed he had knowledge
of some of these activities and that they were carried out by Fayose's men.
(cable obtained from Wikileaks detailing the report)
Fayose was impeached from office on October 16, 2006 by the Ekiti State House of Assembly after a report by the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC) was adopted by the lawmakers who found the ex-governor guilty of criminal diversion of funds meant for the poultry project.
(cable obtained from wikileaks)
The controversies notwithstanding, Fayose was still courted by both the PDP and Action Congress (AC) to support their candidates.
A report obtained from Wikileaks claimed that the reason for this was
the belief of both political parties that Fayose "knows politics and knows how to play the rough political game."
On February 10, 2009, U.S. Mission to Nigeria PP7750 Interagency Committee unanimously agreed to target Ayodele Peter Fayose and his family
for visa ineligibility, giving reasons that he was "reliably believed to have been personally responsible for the theft of tens of millions
of dollars in development funds," and "was reliably alleged to be responsible for considerable political violence in his state".
(evidence obtained for Wikileaks)
Ayodele Fayose is being fielded as the People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Ekiti gubernatorial elections Scheduled to
hold June 21, 2014.
